Talks & DISCUSSION GROUPS             Sundays 7 - 815  pm

FEBRUARY 2008

3     Activating Buddhi-Manas Consciousness (talk & discussion)

Light of Buddhi-wisdom makes the heart intelligent & the mind compassionate, and is activated by meditation and following simple rules of every day living.

10   The Self is the friend of self and also its enemy (study & debate)

We are either our own best friend or worst enemy! Man has a dual nature of two ‘selves’ and it’s only the higher that can lift up the lower, after we’ve allowed it.

17   Rebuilding the Temple (talk & discussion)

"You are the temple of the Living God" was said by Jesus. The Holy of Holies – the Spiritual Spark – resides within you.

24   The Cause of Sorrow (study & debate)

Unfulfilled desires cause suffering – but we can bring it to a stop. The whole story of progress is in this, since "the seeds of failure contain success", and vica versa.

MARCH

2     How shall we meditate (talk & discussion)

Patanjali’s important work shows meditation as an advanced state which requires the preliminary training of attention (Dharana) and contemplation (Dhyana).

9     Law on Elementals (study & debate)

The thoughts and forces behind mantrams, personal objects or hidden valuables react on and influence the elementals, as do our critical or positive thoughts.

16   W Q Judge Day  (two short talks)

W Q Judge was a co-founder of the TS and co-worker and friend of H P Blavatsky, he taught the Heart Doctrine to all seekers after Truth.

23   The Function of Attention (Dharana) in Personal Development (study & debate)

Systematic attention is needed to master any subject or skill, especially relevant in modern education. The will maintains attention on the area under study.

30   Glamour (study & debate)

Glamour is a charm on the eyes and makes us see things other than they really are. Folklore is full of tales on glamour produced by powerful men or elementals.

APRIL

6     The Mystery Tradition (talk & discussion)

Early Christianity drew heavily from the mystery tradition and both Jesus and John the Baptist were initiates.  The Greek word ‘mystery’ implied ‘initiation’.

13   The Power of Speech and Silence (study & debate)

Practice the art of silence. The spiritually deep man lives day and night in a calm inner silence. Speech can either create or destroy & should be controlled by the Will.

20   There is no death (talk & discussion)

Death is not to be feared – it is, like birth, part of the cycle of incarnation. We exchange one robe for another, but consciousness continues on its own plane.

27   Periods between Incarnations (study & debate)

NDEs and the experience of post-mortem consciousness are determined by the last life, and vary from blankness to an ideal formation of our higher aspirations.

MAY

4     White Lotus Day (2 short talks)

A meeting devoted to the life and work of H P Blavatsky who resuscitated the Wisdom Religion for the world, and although now dead, yet she still speaks.

11   Nature and Nature’s God (study & debate)

It’s not nature that we should venerate, but the 'spirit' in it. Spirit and matter are the two eternal aspects of the "One and Secondless" – an immutable principle.

18   Your destiny is in your hands (talk & discussion)

"The line of life’s meditation" opens or closes opportunities for us in line with the new causes that are set up, so one learns that "Exertion is greater than destiny".

25   The genesis of evil in human life (study & debate)

Evil per se only exists in man’s self-seeking competitive behaviour, the cause of his and others’ misery. Goodness is conscience & unites him to his inner nature.
